Letters written by Dick in South Africa, 164 pages, with two maps and four photographs relating to Southern Africa. The collection is accompanied by two pieces of correspondence between Nancy Dick and D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian, 1976, regarding the presentation of the papers to the Society.

Photographs of Bushmen, Herero and Ovambo

Scope and Contents

A collection of loose prints, mostly measuring approximately 55 x 85 mm, with handwritten captions on the reverse. The captions have been used as titles and may include language which is offensive, inaccurate or inappropriate. They have been retained to reflect the context of their creation.

The term Bushmen was used to describe a group of Khoisan-speaking hunter-gatherers who lived in the Kalahari Desert.

Photographs of the German South-West Africa [i.e. Namibia] Campaign, 1915

Scope and Contents A collection of loose photographs (modern prints from original glass negatives probably taken by Stanley Archibald Markham Pritchard), most measuring approximately 190 x 140 mm and showing scenes connected with the occupation of Windhoek and a trip to Ovamboland undertaken by Pritchard later in the same year. Originals of these photographs (3-4 and 7-9) were used to illustrate a talk given by Pritchard to the African Society on May 11 1916 and the same captions are used here. The captions...
