Scope and Contents

A collection consisting of one cibachrome print, one 130 x 100 mm colour transparency, one 130 x 100 mm colour negative and twelve 130 x 100 mm monochrome copy negatives. The originals of these photographs were part of the collection of Sir Edward William Macleay Grigg (1879-1955), 1st Baron Altrincham and Governor of Kenya 1925-31. They were loaned by John Grigg in August 1985, when these copies were made by John Falconer.

A collection of loose snapshots of various sizes with pencilled captions on the reverse. The photographs show scenes in a settler's life in the young colony. Bromhead joined in 1912 and died in Australia in 1944.

Rogers Collection on East Africa

Scope and Contents

This collection of photographs relates to Roger's career on the East African mainland and in Zanzibar. Hardly any of the photographs are captioned, but there are some cuttings from the Zanzibar Gazette inserted and from these and from the Gazette itself it has been possible to identify a large number of the subjects with reasonable certainty. Some photographs are by A.C. Gomes and J.B. Coutinho; others are possibly by Rogers himself.

Scope and Contents

An unpublished account of the role of the early district officer in Kenya and the problems inherent in implementing policy, with illustrations and maps, 501 pages. There is a five-page survey of sources, but only limited source references. The book was written with the financial support of the Department of Technical Cooperation, which enabled Cashmore to spend two years on research and writing, one of which was spent in Kenya. The volume is dated at the front October 1964.
