Sepia prints on mounts. Their appearance suggests that cardboard frames, originally stuck down surrounding the photograph, have been crudely removed. The prints are interesting reflections of British social life and were the property of the grandfather of Mrs. M. Heuston (no further identification or information given).

The journal (c. 305 pages) begins in September 1747, describing the voyage out to India, and concludes with the return of Royal Duke to England on 5 June 1750. The volume includes navigational exercises, transcribed sailing directions and pencil landfalls, and a sketch of the British settlement at Oriocopong.

Disbound album, containing albumen prints of various sizes. The contents include family photographs, scenes of the outward voyage (including France, Italy and Egypt), views in India including the 1877 Delhi Durbar, portraits and groups, including theatrical ones, maps and newspaper clippings (non photographic items are unnumbered). Also included is an envelope containing some of, what appears to be the original captions cut from the album. The collection is well captioned.

Copy of the log book of 'the Mountegue'
Comprises 261 copies of photographic prints taken from the original log, collected by Dr J.G. Gubbins in 1932, as part of efforts to restore the University of Witwatersrand Library which had been destroyed by fire in 1932. The log book relates to a voyage from London to Surat in Gujarat, India, between 1699 and 1702.
