Mostly theological in content. Also includes: letter from Henry 'Smith' to his son, undated; notes of sermons preached by W. Daniell at Norwich, 1621, by William Lucy, bishop of St David's, at Royston, 20 Oct. 1622, and by James Ussher, archbishop of Armagh, at Wanstead, 20 June 1624 (first printed 1624). Also includes sermons in the hand of Samuel Knight DD, prebend of Ely (? 1678-1746) in pages originally left blank.
Written by Simon Patrick. Sermons numbered and arranged with reference to the boxes in which they were kept. In both cases, some sermons by others are included. At fos 44-55 is a list of the same texts arranged in order of the books of the Bible. The book includes (fos 41, 42, 55v-137) sermons in the hand of Samuel Knight DD (d. 1746). fos 3-21: torn out. fo. 22: rough accounts headed 'Cous. Sandys', 1686-7.
Blank pages (fos 41v-120) have been filled by sermons in the hand of Samuel Knight DD (? 1678-1746). fos 1 and 138v: 'John Patrick'. inside front cover: '15'.

There is an alphabetical index at fos 78-86. The book includes additional sermons and notes in the hand of Samuel Knight DD (d. 1746), two dated to Ascension Day and the Feast of St Peter 1707. fos 4, 5, 115: blank.

With drafts of his lives of Erasmus and John Colet. The book was formerly used by an unidentified 17th cent. divine to draft sermons. Among the notes (fos 60-2) are copies of the wills of John Sixtin (24 Mar. 1518), John Yonge (25 Apr 1516), Andrew Ammonius (17 Aug. 1517), and William Lychefeld (2 Nov. 1517).
In shorthand. Includes notes dated at Bristol, 11 July 1677, and paraphrases of Pss. i-viii and Job iii-xxviii. (Patrick published paraphrases of Job in 1679, and of the Psalms in 1689.) fos 47v-90: blank. Includes two sermons (fos 36v-47) in hand of Samuel Knight DD (? 1678-1746).
