Scope and Contents

A collection of loose albumen prints. These topographical views cover Hong Kong, the Chinese Treaty ports (a good selection of material from Shanghai) and Japan. Many of the Japanese prints are hand-coloured. It appears in the Supplement to the Library Catalogue published in 1901.

Scope and Contents A printed book compiled from local journals and other sources, with prints of photographs by John Thomson inserted.Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (1834-1900), second son of Queen Victoria, served in the Royal Navy, and in 1866 was promoted Captain. From 1867-68 he commanded HMS 'Galatea' on an extensive cruise which was cut short when he was wounded in Sydney.
