There are some identifications below, but these have partly been cut off by the edge of the photograph. The original came from Captain Downie's album. The unit later became the 1st Battalion, 8th Gurkha Rifles.

Scope and Contents Miniature coloured portraits of 36 Indian figures, painted on very thin sheets of flexible mica in Trichinopoly, southern India, in 1869. Trichinopoly was the British name for Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu. Mica paintings were produced in standard sets for the colonial tourist market, and imitated paintings on glass which were popular in Europe. Panorama of Simla

Perak: part of northern districts, scale two miles to an inch

Scope and Contents

This is a map of the rubber estates in the Krian district measuring 900 x 620 mm. The area shaded in blue pencil traces the Bukit Merah dam, which provided water for all the rice fields in Krian and the estates in the Parit Buntar/Bagan Serai region. The map is undated, but Laurence Connolly, who donated it, and was posted to the Gula Estate in 1949, states that it predates the Second World War. The Bukit Merah dam was constructed in 1906.
