Claude George Henry Sitwell (1858-1900) followed his father into the British Army, initially as a militia subaltern. He served in the Afghan War of 1879-1880, and in Egypt during 1882. Sitwell was a Captain in the Manchester Regiment attached to the Egyptian Army when he accepted employment in the civil administration of Uganda in 1895. A collection of three uncaptioned loose prints measuring approximately 210 x 150 mm. There is no indication with the prints of what they depict and their source is unknown. The pictures illustrate attempts to remove a tree which has fallen across the path of a narrow gauge rail track. From the smallness of the line, it is possible that this is the trolley line on Mombasa Island.
