The list in the letter depositing the collection includes an item 5, 'Private MSS' which was thought not to have been present. Item 6, 'the MS of my father's book 'Experiences of a Diplomatist' (1872) carries an annotation by H[arold] T[emperley] to the effect that these were not deposited in 1923 and a search in the Master's papers after his death in 1924 did not reveal it. A condition of the deposit states that the papers 'shall not be alienated by [the college] or allowed to be used for historical purposes except by permission of the Master and Fellows. The use of some of them may require reference to, or the permission of, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for the time being'.
