Weatherstone Collection
The collection consists of reproductions and originals of nineteenth-century prints, postcards, early and modern photographs, and watercolours which feature in two books on the tea industry written by John Weatherstone. Weatherstone’s works are distinguished for the wealth of their illustrations, which vividly bring to life the planter’s working and living conditions.

West African trading activities
An album containing photographs showing aspects of European trade in the West African coast.
The photographs occupy 28 pages of an album; plates 21-27, 30-31 and 32-34 each occupy one page. There are a number of blank pages at the back. Most of the prints have brief captions, which have been used as titles and have been recorded as found. They are not always reliable: see, e.g., plates 10 and 15.
West Indian documents
Loose papers and one newspaper from Patrick and his son James Colquhoun's correspondence files. RCMS 263/1-9 have a cover headed 'Nevis 1820' and RCMS 263/11-31 are in a similar cover '1832 West Indies'. Each has a note of contents, but these do not tally exactly with the items now present.
Whaling in Falkland Islands Dependencies
Three postcards and two prints, probably collected as part of the Colonial Office Visual Instruction Committee material (see introduction to Fisher Collection). The photographs are captioned on the backs.

Wilfred Court collection
Wilfred Powell: General Braddock collection
Material collected by Powell on the death of General Edward Braddock (1695-1755), who was mortally wounded at Monongahela on 9 July 1755 while in command of the British forces in North America during the French and Indian War of 1754-1763, part of the Seven Years' War. A marble monument was erected over his grave site in Great Meadows, Pennsylvania, in 1913, an event which was attended by Powell in his capacity as Consul for Pennsylvania.
Wilfred Powell: Personal papers
Material relating to Powell’s career in the South Pacific, including some letters and a cutting book on his expedition to New Guinea, and papers concerning his consularship in Samoa. Powell’s time in Samoa coincided with a period of imperial rivalry between America, Britain and Germany, as well as internal rivalry among indigenous leaders on the islands.
'William Fitzwilliam Owen: hydrographer of the African coast': PhD thesis
A Ph.D. thesis for the University of Syracuse, 1972 (348 pages), with related correspondence between R.T. Brown, D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian, and Dr Peter K. Mitchell of the Centre of West African Studies, University of Birmingham, 1978-1979 (1 envelope).
William McGillivray: 'Some account of the trade carried on by the North West Company'
Manuscript account, 58 pages in total, divided into sections and with crossings-out and corrections. The rear page is marked 'Sketch of the Fur trade of Canada. 1809'. This account formed the basis of the publication 'On the origin and progress of the North-West Co.' (London, 1811) and has variously been attributed to Duncan McGillivray or David Thompson.
Wimberley Collection on Nigeria, c.1903-18
Collection of 91 glass negatives, 106 x 80 mm; 3 negatives on film, 90 x 60 mm; and 3 modern prints, 150 x 120 mm. Many of the negatives lack descriptive captions. The captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found. Titles composed by the cataloguer are enclosed in square brackets.
W.M. Bristow Nigerian photographs
A collection of small photographs in albums. These albums cover aspects of Bristow's work between the early 1930s and 1960.
Y3043D has virtually no captions - there are some in Y3043E, but many of these relate to groups of photographs and the listing is therefore a summary, not an individual record.

Wren Robinson Collection on South Africa
A collection of photographs of Basutoland (now Lesotho) and Zululand, some loose, some in albums, taken or collected by Mrs Wren Robinson while engaged in educational and welfare work. Most have handwritten captions either underneath or on the back by Mrs Robinson. The prints are kept with her papers at RCMS 220.

Collection of professional photographs, each 90 x 70 mm, published for the Yass Newsagency by the Valentine Publishing Co. Pty. Ltd., Sydney and Melbourne. Yass is 43 miles north of Canberra. Its population in 1947 was 3254.

A number of the images depict Gibraltar, the remainder relate to Young's service in Woolwich, Shoeburyness, and elsewhere in the U.K.
'Your obedient servants, 1895-1918'
An unpublished account of the role of the early district officer in Kenya and the problems inherent in implementing policy, with illustrations and maps, 501 pages. There is a five-page survey of sources, but only limited source references. The book was written with the financial support of the Department of Technical Cooperation, which enabled Cashmore to spend two years on research and writing, one of which was spent in Kenya. The volume is dated at the front October 1964.
Zanzibar (Chandler Collection)
A collection of separate photographs and a panorama. The photographs date from Chandler's residence in east Africa, and are chiefly of Zanzibar Island, but 60-73 and 83-87 are of Dar es Salaam, 75 is probably of England, 88-89 are of South Africa and 90-96 are of the Victoria Falls.
