Collection of colour 35 mm transparencies given by the High Commission for Trinidad in August 1982. When planning the exhibition 'Commonwealth in Focus' the library requested material from Commonwealth Governments and these slides were sent in response. A continuous slide show was prepared to portray contemporary aspects of the countries of the Commonwealth and nine of these slides were copied for inclusion. The image descriptions are copied from the list supplied with the slides.

Littledale India Collection

4 albums containing albumen prints. Y3022G-I were compiled by Harold Littledale and include photographs by Scowen and Co., A.T.W. Penn, Samuel Bourne and his successors, and others. Y3022I/A contains reproductions of the works of the Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma and was given to Littledale by the photographer V.G. Chiplonkar.

Bound volume titled on spine, 'Commanding Officer's Letter Book | Private'. Contains summaries or full transcripts of over 300 letters, both private and official, relating to the period when Henry Despard was commanding the 99th Regiment in Sydney (1846-8) and Hobart Town (1848-54) and in undertaking special duties in the Victorian goldfields (1853). The correspondence largely relates to regimental organisation, discipline and welfare. 128pp., with index to letters at rear of volume.

Pauline Fothergill paid several visits to Malta and, at the Librarian's request, took photographs of a number of local memorials. The following list is, firstly, of negatives (1-42) and later of prints (43-72), some of which were taken from the negatives. 1-30 are black and white negatives, 31-42 colour. 43-72 are mostly black and white prints.

A collection of albumen prints which include views of the Middle East, Malta and Gibraltar by Robertson, Beato and others. The majority are of European works of arts and townscapes (many of the latter unidentified). There are also scenes at Woolwich. Map of Perak: part of northern districts, scale two miles to an inch

Scope and Contents

This is a map of the rubber estates in the Krian district measuring 900 x 620 mm. The area shaded in blue pencil traces the Bukit Merah dam, which provided water for all the rice fields in Krian and the estates in the Parit Buntar/Bagan Serai region. The map is undated, but Laurence Connolly, who donated it, and was posted to the Gula Estate in 1949, states that it predates the Second World War. The Bukit Merah dam was constructed in 1906.
