A collection of loose prints measuring approximately 210 x 155 mm or 150 x 105 mm, with handwritten captions on the reverse. The captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found. Photographs probably by Revd. Alfred Hall.

Vryheid, South Africa

Scope and Contents This album is associated with the 1st Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment, which departed from Fulwood Barracks, Preston, on 30 November 1899 to join Sir Redvers Buller’s army in Natal in January 1900. It documents the regiment’s service at Vryheid in the eastern Transvaal between 1900 and 1901, and includes images of its officers and men, encampment, defences, patrols, logistics and recreational activities, and the arrival of allied Zulu warriors. Wren Robinson Collection on South Africa

Scope and Contents

A collection of photographs of Basutoland (now Lesotho) and Zululand, some loose, some in albums, taken or collected by Mrs Wren Robinson while engaged in educational and welfare work. Most have handwritten captions either underneath or on the back by Mrs Robinson. The prints are kept with her papers at RCMS 220.

Zanzibar (Chandler Collection)

Scope and Contents

A collection of separate photographs and a panorama. The photographs date from Chandler's residence in east Africa, and are chiefly of Zanzibar Island, but 60-73 and 83-87 are of Dar es Salaam, 75 is probably of England, 88-89 are of South Africa and 90-96 are of the Victoria Falls.
