A print, mounted on card, and measuring 142 x 100 mm, with a caption stating 'Napier, N.Z. 1864' and signed 'E.J. Mountier. 1894'. The photograph is a reproduction of a painting of the young settlement viewed from an overlooking hill, with the sea at the left and houses and enclosed land in the foreground.

New Zealand Contingent for the Transvaal. Wellington. October 1899

Scope and Contents A mounted print measuring 204 x 15 mm, with the caption handwritten on the mount. The photograph shows a section of the New Zealand contingent on parade in a field outside Wellington, with hills in the background. New Zealand, like Australia, responded enthusiastically to the prospect of the Boer War and the New Zealand Government eventually sent nearly 6,500 men during the course of the war and they took a full part in many important actions. Panorama of Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand

Scope and Contents

Two prints joined to measure 557 x 189 mm and with the title handwritten at the top of the print. The panorama shows the small settlement at the end of the North Shore, with houses and bungalows gathered round the far side of the small beach in the foreground. At the left of the print is a jetty leading out into Waitemata Harbour, with Auckland visible in the distance across the water.
