Cruise of H.M.S. 'Lancaster'

Scope and Contents Album of photographs by various photographers inscribed 'H.M.S. Lancaster; Mediterranean Photographic Album: Diary of Events and Important Places Visited during the Commission 1910-1912' on the cover. Scope and Contents

Printed volume with text by W.M. Thomson illustrated with photographs taken by Francis Bedford. The photographs were taken whilst Bedford accompanied the Prince of Wales on his tour of the Middle East in 1862 and were published as an inexpensive alternative to Bedford (1863). The accompanying text in this volume is described as 'designedly of a popular character'.

Scope and Contents The collection was originally housed in seven boxes, four of which were specially made with individual slots for slides. These were numbered 3, 6, 10 and 11 and the remaining boxes were unnumbered. Presumably these formed part of a larger collection, but nothing is known of the original owner or the fate of any other boxes. For conservation reasons, the collection has since been re-boxed.
