Scope and Contents The collection was compiled by Allan Allison, Carlisle City Museum Assistant (1956-66) and Senior Nature Reserve Warden with Nature Conservancy Scotland (1968-78), who became acquainted with French during the final years of his life. When the 'Commonwealth in Focus' exhibition was being prepared it was felt that the strong emphasis on the historical aspect, and the fact that the only section on the contemporary Commonwealth dealt with broad issues and organisations rather than individual countries, made some additional material on contemporary developments desirable.
