Scope and Contents
This collection mainly consists of reprints of Wigglesworth's papers and protocols covering his research into insect physiology throughout his career. There are also diaries and photographs of Wigglesworth's research visits to West Africa, 1928, and the Indian sub-continent, 1934 - 1935.

Apart from some files in section 9 (clearly marked in the catalogue) the papers are open for consultation by researchers using Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge.

Biographical / Historical
Vincent Wigglesworth was born in 1899. In 1928 he married Mabel Semple (died 1986) and they had three sons and one daughter. During World War I Wigglesworth served in France (1917-1918) he then went on to study at Caius College, Cambridge, 1922 -1924. In 1926 he became Lecturer in Medical Entomology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He followed this with Reader in Entomology at the University of London, 1936 - 1944, and Reader in Entomology at the University of Cambridge, 1945 -1952. He was also Director of the Agricultural Research Council Unit of Insect Physiology, 1943 - 1967, and Quick Professor of Biology at the University of Cambridge, 1952 - 1966. Wigglesworth was knighted in 1964. He lectured to and received honours from universities around the world as well as serving on many public and academic bodies. He died in 1994.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Professor Wigglesworth deposited his papers at Churchill Archives Centre in April 1989. Further papers were deposited by the Department of Zoology, Cambridge University, in 1992.
