Biographical / Historical
Victor Hubert Tait was born on 8 July 1892, the son of Samuel Tait. He was educated at the University of Manitoba. Tait married three times: his third wife was Nancy Muecke.
Tait entered the Canadian Army in 1914-17, serving with the Royal Flying Corps and the RAF, 1917-45. Tait's positions included Director of Radar and Director-General of Signals at the Air Ministry (1942-45) and Operations Director for British Overseas Airways Corporation (1945-56); Chairman of various companies including International Airadio Ltd (1945-63), Lindley Thompson Transformer Co. (1959-66), Ultra Electronics Ltd.
His honours and awards included the Order of the Nile (Egypt), 1936, the Order of Merit (USA), 1945, OBE 1938, CB 1943 and KBE 1944.
Tait died on November 27 1988.
