The collection held at Churchill Archives Centre includes: letters from Lady Randolph Churchill to her younger son, John S Churchill, and also to Winston Churchill; letters from Lord Randolph Churchill; letters from Winston Churchill; the correspondence of John S Churchill ("Jack"); the correspondence of Jack's wife, Lady Gwendeline Churchill ("Goonie"); letters from Peregrine's elder brother John G Churchill ("Johnny"); letters and papers relating to Peregrine Churchill himself; family photographs; legal and financial papers.

Biographical / Historical
Henry Winston Spencer Peregrine Churchill (known as Peregrine) was born on 25 May 1913, the son of John S Churchill and Lady Gwendeline Churchill. The family was close to that of Sir Winston Churchill and Peregrine spent time with Sir Winston's children during his childhood. He was educated at Harrow and at Cambridge. Peregrine took a strong interest in the papers of Sir Winston Churchill and the history of his grandparents, Lord and Lady Randolph Churchill. He was married twice: first to Patricia (1954 until her death in 1956) and secondly to Yvonne, whom he married in 1957. He died on 19 March 2002.

The letters were arranged by Celia Lee in chronological order although some letters are not dated and are hard to place in sequence.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The material was deposited at Churchill Archives Centre at various times between November 2005 and July 2011 by Peregrine Churchill's widow, via John and Celia Lee. Accepted by HM Government in Lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to Churchill Archives Centre, 2012.
General
This provisional collection level description and catalogue were compiled by Natalie Adams of Churchill Archives Centre in April 2006 using information from the papers themselves. Biographical information about Peregrine Churchill was obtained from his obituary notice in Finest Hour, the journal of the International Churchill Society (No 114 - datelines section). Further sections of the catalogue were added by Katharine Thomson in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011.
