Biographical / Historical

Mary Bigmore, born c 1916, was a nursing sister at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London. During the war she had nursed in Burma [later Myanmar] and India, while attached to the 14th Army. She had already nursed Churchill at Hyde Park Gate during a minor illness in 1951, and was brought to Chartwell in 1953 to act as his private nurse once again.
