Biographical / Historical
Forbes was trained as a Chartered Accountant. He was appointed Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Aircraft Production, 1940-3; Member of the Aircraft Council, 1942-5; Chairman, First Iron and Steel Board, 1946-9; Chairman, Iron and Steel Board, 1953-9; President, British Bankers' Association, 1970-2; President, Midland Bank Ltd, 1975-83 (previously having served as Director, 1959, Deputy Chairman, 1962-64, and Chairman, 1964-75). He was knighted in 1943 and appointed GBE in 1957.
