Biographical / Historical

Basil Sanderson was born 18 June 1894, the son of Harold Sanderson and Maud Blood. In 1927 he married Evelyn Constance with whom he had twin sons and one daughter. Sanderson was educated at Rugby School and at Trinity College, Oxford.

Sanderson served in the First World War in the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry and was mentioned twice in despatches. He had a long and distinguished business career and held directorships of many organisations.

During the Second World War, Sanderson held positions as Director of Shipping in Port in the Ministry of Shipping (1939-41), Head of Port and Transit Control, Ministry of War Transport (1941-45). Sanderson died 15 August 1971.
