Written from 92 Elm Park Gardens, the Naval & Military Club, the Army & Navy Club, the Beefsteak Club, the Marlborough Club and the Orleans Club in London, Wemyss Castle in Fife, the Hotel du Louvre & de la Paix in Marseilles, SS Mooltan, Heliopolis House Hotel in Cairo, Baghdad in Iraq, the Chine Hotel in Bournemouth and the Damascus Palace Hotel in Syria.
Subjects include early air travel, Wemyss' work as President of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), Wemyss' work for British Oil Development Co. Ltd. (BOD), the Turkish Petroleum Company (TPC), the Iraqi Petroleum Company (IPC), Wemyss' work with the Colonial Office on the question of oil trade with Iraq, the possibility of a Government Bill on the subject, Wemyss' views of the Prince of Wales’ [later Edward VIII, then the Duke of Windsor] preparation for his reign and the ill health of George V.
