Correspondence on mentions of ELS in histories of the First World War, also relating to his Alsatian dog, Rex. Correspondents include 1st Lord Chandos [earlier Oliver Lyttelton].
Also includes copies of letters relating to ELS from the First World War, with letters from Winston Churchill (1915-16), on trying to get ELS promoted and his admiration for him (originals at SPRS 1/76), from Sir Maurice Hankey [Secretary to the Imperial War Cabinet] on the value of his work (original at SPRS 1/159), from General Victor d'Urbal, commander of the Tenth Army on his regret at losing him (original at SPRS 5/13) and from Field Marshal Sir John French [later 1st Lord Ypres] on his affection for him (original at SPRS 1/138).
