Scope and Contents
Includes birthday greetings, personal correspondence and papers on ELS’s will.
Correspondents include: Edward Evans-Pritchard; Lord Ilford [earlier Geoffrey Hutchinson]; 1st Lord Boothby on subjects including thanking ELS for his congratulations on his marriage (2); "Peti" [Michael Spears]; Martin Gilbert on his book "The Roots of Appeasement" and on researching Anglo-French relations (3); Sir Alvery Gascoigne; 1st Lord Erroll of Hale; Quintin Hogg [later Lord Hailsham of Saint Marylebone]; John Colville on the future of ELS’s archive (2).
Also includes: account of ELS’s departure from France in June 1940 with Charles de Gaulle; texts of BBC interviews with ELS, mainly on his writing; an account of an interview on French radio and television; biographical material; ELS’s will, with accompanying correspondence, including a codicil on the writing of his biography; souvenir programmes from the 1930’s and a memorial booklet to the Marquis de Rose, 1916; ELS’s and MS’s passports from 1919 and military passes from the 1940’s.
