Subject Files, 1957 - 2005
Scope and Contents
Annotated working papers on various subjects connected with the scrutiny of legislation and procedure, opposition to European integration, and issues Spearing felt were connected with UK parliamentary democracy and constitutional matters. The subject files were mostly assembled by Spearing under various headings to 'illustrate the fact of penetration into the legislative, social and democratic life of the EU peoples of EU states, denying them "progressively" of democratic government of the varied peoples of a continent, or sub-continent, of greatly varying human experience, tradition, and national coherence on which successful democracy rests [sic].' The subject files include articles, annotated official documents, and a small amount of correspondence.
