Scope and Contents

These papers cover CS's diplomatic career as Ambassador to Paris, as Vice President of the Commission of the European Communities with special responsibility for External Affairs and as Governor of Southern Rhodesia. This last, although not strictly speaking a diplomatic post, has been included with this group as the chief function of CS as Governor was to negotiate a ceasefire and return to normal relations pending full independence for Zimbabwe within the Commonwealth.
