Pugwash Associated Bodies: Society for Education in the Applications of Science (SEAS), 1962 - 1992
Scope and Contents
The Society for Education in the Applications of Science (SEAS) was established as a UK charity in 1968 and wound up in 1991 when the remaining assets were transferred to the British Pugwash Trust (see RTBT 5/6/4). Its main purpose was to provide a legal entity for the receipt of charitable donations to Pugwash including those raised by an appeal to establish the Cockcroft Memorial Fund in memory of Sir John Cockcroft, first President of Pugwash, who died in 1967. The body was governed by a ruling Council and held Annual General Meetings. The SEAS also served as the sponsor of two symposia in 1968 and 1969, the second of which was officially listed by Pugwash as the fourth Pugwash Symposium (see RTBT 5/2/2/4).
