Scope and Contents

This series contains a selection of original and copy source material relating to the pre-history and early history of the Pugwash movement (mainly the second half of the 1950s) including correspondence with Bertrand Russell (instigator of the Russell-Einstein Manifesto) who served as first president of Pugwash. Some appears to have been brought together to inform research into the history or context of the movement.

It also includes the text of talks, articles and correspondence relating to the study of and publications concerning the organisation’s history.

The archives are divided into the following groups: correspondence (RTBT 5/1/1), Bertrand Russell (RTBT 5/1/2), Miscellaneous (RTBT 5/1/3) and Research and Histories (RTBT 5/1/4). Within these groups the arrangement is broadly chronological.
