Scope and Contents

Correspondence on the Official Biography, the Churchill papers, copyright and general Churchill related matters, with correspondents including: James Ramsden, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for War, on WSC's service records; Emery Reves [earlier Imre Revesz] on his correspondence with WSC (3), also including a list of WSC's visits to his villa La Pausa at Roquebrune Cap Martin in the south of France, a transcript of a taped interview between him and RSC and articles on his meetings with WSC after the war and his negotiations with 1st Lord Camrose [Chairman of the Daily Telegraph, earlier William Berry] on the publishing contract for American rights in WSC's history of the Second World War, photographs of WSC's last painting (of roses in a vase) painted at La Pausa and of him actually painting it in 1959 and copies of correspondence between Reves and CSC on Reves obtaining photographs of WSC's La Pausa paintings and CSC having destroyed some of them; [James] Colin Welch, Deputy Editor of the Daily Telegraph, on an article on WSC's will; Edgar Williams, Warden of Rhodes House; Robert Rhodes James on subjects including allegations of a vendetta against WSC, WSC's escape from the Boers, his own book ["Churchill: a study in failure, 1900-39"], the destruction of 11 trunks of Lord Randolph Churchill's papers by the 9th Duke of Marlborough and references to WSC in the papers of Sir Edward Hamilton and Lord Rosebery (24); Cecil Roberts on his plea to WSC to save the country in 1930, WSC's visit to Parrot Jungle in Miami [United States, 1946], his election campaign for West Leicester in 1923 and his wearing of Lord Randolph Churchill's watch-chain (2); Keith Robbins, Department of History, University of York (2); Sir [Thomas] Leslie Rowan [Managing Director of Vickers Limited and former Principal Private Secretary to WSC] on a photograph [not present] of WSC with Alcock and Brown after they made the first non-stop transatlantic flight in 1919; Sir [James] Steven Runciman on letters between WSC and his father [Walter Runciman] (3); Mariadas Ruthnaswamy on making WSC's social reforms better known (2).

Also includes (sent by Abraham Rosenthal) copies of letters from WSC to [William] St John Brodrick [later 1st Lord Midleton] on his biography of Lord Randolph Churchill, Oct 1905 and a copy of a draft article by WSC for the Morning Post, Dec 1899, on the Boer War, entitled "In the British Lines Again".
