Scope and Contents
On subjects including the [Conscription Bill] and that A [Herbert Asquith, Prime Minister] would [support it in Parliament] at the last minute; asking F E [Smith] to make enquiries of K [Lord Kitchener]; WSC's experience of fighting on the Western Front including the death of about 100 officers and men out of 500 who were in the trenches with WSC in ten weeks; WSC's ignorance of the overall war situation; the Battle of Verdun; WSC thinking that German forces would invade Russia; the possibility of B L [Andrew Bonar Law] taking over the Financial [as Chancellor of the Exchequer]; and asking F E [Smith] to tell L G [David Lloyd George] about what WSC was doing.
