Biographical / Historical
John David Spencer Rawlinson was married twice and had one daughter. He was awarded an OBE in 1955 and a CBE in 1965. He joined H. M. Signal, Royal Naval Barracks, Portsmouth as a Junior Scientific Assistant in 1923 and was involved in the development of equipment for the radio-controlled Target Ship "H. M. S. Centurion". He first became involved in Radar Development in 1938 and retired in May 1965. His publications included "The development of UK naval radar" with Professor J.F. Coales, "Development of Radar for the Royal Navy 1935-44" in the Naval Electrical Review, July 1975.
