Scope and Contents
Major-General George Humphreys was born 5/10/1899. He served in a number of prominent positions including, Assistant Director of Public Relations War Office, Oct 1939-Sep 1940, Brigadier in charge of administration, BURMA command July 1946 until Burmese Independence in Jan 1948. During the period covered by his memoir, he was responsible for: Administration of armies, feeding the population in the ‘hunger’ areas of Burma, Administration of Japanese prisoners, negotiations with the Burmese Government for setting u the Burmese army and the evacuation of British and Indian troops.
