This was a mission to meet with the Viceroy, Field Marshal Lord Wavell and the leaders of the Indian parties, regarding how full control of Indian affairs could be transformed to an Indian Government for a United India. Biographical / Historical
Sir Francis Fearon Turnbull was born in 1925. He served as Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for India, 1941-1946; Secretary to the Cabinet Mission to India, 1946; Under-Secretary at HM Treasury, 1949-1959; Secretary, Office of the Minister for Science, 1959–64; Deputy Under-Secretary of State, Dept of Education and Science, 1964–66. Member, Board of Governors, Imperial College, 1967–73. Hon. DSc Edinburgh, 1967
He was Knighted in 1964. He died in 1988, aged 63
