Photograph album of MS and the Churchill family, book 3, 1941-11 - 1948-12
Scope and Contents
The album may have been compiled at the same time as MS's memoir "A Daughter’s Tale", and includes original black-and-white and colour prints, with photocopies and copy prints collected from elsewhere. Subjects include: the Churchill family during the war; MS and Winston Churchill aboard HMS Renown on their way home from the Quebec Conference, Sept 1943 (and also a similar shot from HMS Duke of York in Dec 1941); the Churchills and Franklin Roosevelt [President of the United States] in various boats during the Quebec Conference; MS and Clementine Churchill at Williamsburg, Virginia, Sept 1943, and also with Sarah Oliver [earlier Sarah Churchill, later Sarah Beauchamp and Sarah, Lady Audley]; Churchill reviewing troops with Charles de Gaulle [leader of the Free French]; the Churchill family with [Robert] Anthony Eden [Foreign Secretary, later 1st Lord Avon] in [?] Paris [France]; MS with Churchill at [?] the Soviet embassy, May 1945; MS's wedding; [Arthur] Nicholas Soames as a baby.
Also includes a file of loose photographs, cuttings etc on subjects including: MS on her horse Patsy; Sir Desmond Morton [Personal Assistant to Churchill]; MS with Clementine and Maryott Whyte ("Nana"); MS and Clementine Churchill talking to Admiral of the Fleet Sir [Alfred] Dudley Pound, 1941; Churchill with his brother John "Jack" Churchill, watching manoeuvres, 1941; MS with her ATS colleagues; family group at Chequers [Buckinghamshire, on Churchill's 67th birthday, 1941]; MS on board ship with Churchill, 1941 and 1943; MS with Churchill at Niagara Falls, Aug 1943; Clementine and MS in a carriage in Quebec, and MS with [William] Mackenzie King [Prime Minister of Canada], 1943; MS cutting her 21st birthday cake aboard HMS Renown, 1943; the Downing Street Annexe [London]; MS christening the Flying Fortress bomber "Stage Door Canteen" with a bottle of Coca Cola.
