Biographical / Historical
Maryott Whyte (generally known as "Moppet" or "Nana") was the younger daughter of Theodore Whyte and Lady Maude Whyte [earlier Lady Maude Ogilvy], Clementine Churchill's aunt. Maryott, born on 10 November 1895, had trained as a Norland nurse, and came to stay at Chartwell [Kent] in October 1921, soon after completing her training, as nanny to the younger Churchill children (and godmother to MS). She remained at Chartwell to look after MS for over 20 years, and stayed extremely close to her in later life. Maryott Whyte died on 16 August 1973.
