Maude’s association with The Sunday Express as a social, political and economic commentator began in 1957 and from the beginning it is clear that he had a formal arrangement with them since the articles appear in a uniform format with a photograph and substantial by-line. The association was disrupted by his departure for Australia, and it is not until 1970 that regular articles reappear. There are no articles that can be identified for the period 1978-81From Maude’s own records it is also clear that not everything he wrote for them was published and a number of drafts bear the note “unpublished” in Maude’s writing.
