Scope and Contents

Letters, mainly from Alan Lascelles, written while serving as aide to his brother-in-law, George Lloyd [later 1st Baron Lloyd], Governor of Bombay.
During this period, Alan Lascelles met and married Joan Thesiger, daughter of the Viceroy of India, Lord Chelmsford [Frederick John Napier Thesiger, 1st Viscount Chelmsford].

Permission to consult CLOSED material within the Lascelles papers (LASL 1/2/1-6; and sections of LASL 2-4) and the catalogue describing the closed material must be obtained from the Royal Archives. The remainder of the collection is open for consultation by researchers using Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge.
