The majority of side 1 consists of an interview with NK for the Manchester Evening News on subjects including: Manchester's bid for the Olympic Games; the rail link between the city and Manchester Airport; the Government's economic policies and Labour's spending and tax plans; regional development and devolution; Labour's relations with the trades unions; Labour's policy on Europe, particularly federalism and economic and monetary union; the Citizen's Charter; inner city deprivation and crime, particularly relating to Moss Side [Manchester]. Also includes an extract from the BBC Radio 4 PM programme, April 1991.
Side 2 mainly consists of an interview with NK with an unknown interviewer, mainly on aspects of socialism, particularly: formative influences on NK's political views; the effect of a political career on family life; political decisions, including on the Miners' Strike; the role of a democratic socialist party; changes to Labour; Conservative attempts to borrow Labour policies. Also includes an extract from a BBC Radio 4 news programme on the Gulf War.
