Scope and Contents
Side 1: NK speaking on social policy and private and public sector social care provision (in which his voice is slightly muffled); press interviews from NK’s visit to Derby during the local election campaign, on BREL (British Rail Engineering Ltd, Derby), local taxation and the Council Tax.
Side 2: Labour Party recording of an interview with NK for the BBC World Service (see KNNK 26/2/157 for the BBC version) on the latest Labour policy review document, "Opportunity Britain". Subjects include: the meaning of democratic socialism; income tax; spending commitments, mainly on the National Health Service; European political, economic and monetary union and a common European defence policy; nuclear defence; NK's own standing. Includes some off the record remarks about John Major at the beginning. Also includes part of a recording of NK being interviewed by Brian Walden on health policy (occasionally interrupted by other voices).
