Subjects include: South Africa; the independence of the BBC (following a decision not to broadcast a film on Northern Ireland); changes in supplementary benefit; Nicaragua; human rights in Indonesia; publication of an official history of nuclear testing; an inquiry chaired by Lord Bridge on interception of postal and telephone communications by the security services; the prosecution of the Ministry of Defence official Clive Ponting under the Official Secrets Act after he sent documents on the sinking of the Argentine warship General Belgrano during the Falklands War.
