Scope and Contents
NK's official correspondence, as leader of the Labour Party, and also as a European Commissioner and Vice-President of the European Commission, and then as a member of the House of Lords.

Arrangement
No overall original order; NK’s office appears to have set aside particular days for answering large amounts of general correspondence, even though they may have been received some months before, so there might be several hundred letters ranging over several months, with the replies all dating from one day. Other bundles of correspondence appeared to be entirely random, dating from various years, without any common subject or correspondent. Frequently two halves of a correspondence were to be found in separate boxes.
As such large amounts of correspondence were involved, and would be extremely difficult to use as they were, they were reordered, alphabetically and by year, to aid retrieval. The exception to this were small individual files, such as personal correspondence, and the files of more general correspondence answered on NK’s behalf by Neil Stewart, which were left in date order.
