Papers relating to the Economic Growth Group, 1961-64, 1961 - 1964
Scope and Contents
The papers consist mainly of correspondence 1961-4, chiefly invitations and acceptances, including Toby Aldington, 31 May 1962, Harold Wilson MP, 2 May & 9 July 1963, Harold Evans, 3 December 1962. The papers also contain various working drafts of the Group’s manifesto (1962) which was given to all guests who accepted the Group’s invitation to dine.

Biographical / Historical
The group consisted of Richard Bailey, Samuel Brittan, Nigel Lawson, William Rees-Mogg, Andrew Shonfield, Arthur Winspear and DH. It was a dining club which met regularly and discussed economic matters over dinner. Various politicians, senior civil servants and other public or influential persons were invited as guests.
