Reports by [Maurice] Harold Macmillan, Resident Minister at Allied Headquarters in North-West Africa [later 1st Lord Stockton] on subjects including: recognition of the French authorities in North Africa by other governments; the decline of General Henri Giraud, Commander-in-Chief of French forces in North Africa; changes to the French Cabinet; reaction to the arrests of Pierre Boisson, Marcel Peyrouton and Pierre Flandin, Vichy French Leaders, by the Free French; the Lebanon; Charles de Gaulle; local American opinion; future prospects; the development of French affairs from the constitution of the French Committee of National Liberation up until its recognition by the Allies.
Also includes a draft despatch by Duff Cooper reporting on his view of de Gaulle and the difficult relations between him and Winston Churchill.
