Biographical / Historical
Stephen Lamport was born 27 November 1951, the son of Eric and Jeanne Lamport. He was educated at Dorking County Grammar School, Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge (Scholar, MA) and the University of Sussex (MA). In 1979, he married Angela Vivien Paula Hervey, having two sons and one daughter.
Lamport joined the Diplomatic Service in 1974 and his diplomatic career included: UK Mission to United Nations, 1974; Tehran [Iran], 1975–79; Foreign and Commonwealth Office, 1979–84; Private Secretary to Minister of State, 1981–84; First Secretary, Rome [Italy], 1984–88; FCO, 1988–93; Deputy Private Secretary to the Prince of Wales, 1993–96; Private Secretary and Treasurer to the Prince of Wales, 1996–2002.
