Correspondents include: June Churchill [earlier June Osborne] on her sadness at the failure of her marriage to Randolph Churchill; 1st Lord Montgomery of Alamein on subjects including Clementine's health, visits to Chartwell [Kent], his view of the Suez Crisis and the Soviet repression in Hungary (5); Lady Dorothy Macmillan on Clementine's health, the move into 11 Downing Street [London] and her regret about [Maurice] Harold Macmillan [later 1st Lord Stockton] leaving the Foreign Office to become Chancellor of the Exchequer; R A Butler on seeing Churchill in the south of France with Emery Reves [earlier Imre Revesz] and Wendy Reves, January 1956; Lady Violet Bonham Carter [earlier Violet Asquith, later Baroness Asquith of Yarnbury] on her nephew Luke Asquith, Churchill's "A History of the English-Speaking Peoples" and the great effect of his speech [to the Primrose League] at the Royal Albert Hall, April 1956.
