Scope and Contents
Correspondents include: Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, on Churchill's recovery [from pneumonia], March 1943, and on the good reports she had heard of Clementine's Fulmer Chase maternity hospital for officers' wives; Queen Elizabeth, on her and King George VI's gratitude to Churchill, following Clementine's thanks [draft enclosed] for a letter from the King to Churchill on the success of the North African campaign, May 1943, and inviting Churchill to lunch, June 1943, as with the King being away she had no way of knowing how the war was going (2); Sir Alan Lascelles [Private Secretary to the King] passing on the King and Queen's sympathy to Clementine during Churchill's attack of pneumonia, December 1943.
