Top copy and carbon copy of a letter from Churchill to Clementine from the British Embassy, Cairo [Egypt] on subjects including: the need for new commanders in the Middle East; Churchill's gratitude to Field Marshal Jan Smuts for his support and his distress at the death of Lieutenant-General William Gott; his view of Lieutenant-General Bernard Montgomery; bad appointments made by General Sir Claude Auchinleck [Commander-in-Chief Middle East]; Churchill's visits to see the armoured brigades; lunches with Randolph Churchill's friends, including [Archibald] David Stirling; his worries about the Moscow Conference ahead.
