Subjects include: Churchill's stay with Randolph Churchill at Maxine Elliott's villa, Chateau de l'Horizon, near Cannes [France], August 1934; Maxine's financial losses in the American slump; painting at Antibes and the Notre Dame de Vie chapel [at Mougins]; work on the proofs of Volume II [of the biography of 1st Duke of Marlborough] and starting on Volume III; plans for a cruise [in the Eastern Mediterranean, aboard the yacht Rosaura with 1st Lord Moyne, earlier Walter Guinness]; Churchill's disgust at the Daily Mail's boost for Adolf Hitler and his view of the pacifism of Lord Rothermere [owner of the Daily Mail, earlier Harold Harmsworth]; the German vote to make Hitler both Chancellor and President; Churchill's wish to write about Napoleon; an offer for a series of articles for the News of the World on Churchill's life; Clementine's second cruise [on the Rosaura, to the Dutch East Indies, later Indonesia], December 1934; a family visit to Blenheim Palace [Oxfordshire], and the progress of the children, particularly Mary Churchill [later Mary Soames] and Diana Churchill [later Diana Bailey and Diana Sandys].
