Subjects include: debates in Parliament on 'the Ulster Pogrom' [moving ships to the coast of Ireland in case it became necessary to move troops to Northern Ireland]; the grief of John Seely [later 1st Lord Mottistone] [following the death of his wife]; a suggestion of a vacancy [? at the India Office]; Churchill's concerns about their finances; the reception of the Budget; Clementine's anxiety about Churchill's flying and the death of the pilot Gustav Hamel; the health of Jack [John S Churchill]; the sinking of [RMS Empress of Ireland] off Canada; various cruises aboard the Admiralty yacht [the Enchantress]; difficulties with Churchill's life insurance; Churchill's decision to give up flying; medical treatment on Churchill's chest and back; being cross-examined by [? ex-Inspector John Syme] and a meeting with 1st Lord Northcliffe [owner of the Times and Daily Mail, earlier Alfred Harmsworth], July 1914; the Home Rule conference; the approaching war in Europe and Churchill's feelings about it; the decision to put Admiral Sir Jellicoe in command of the Grand Fleet; the outbreak of war; Churchill's concern about Clementine staying at [Overstrand, Norfolk] in case of a German raid; Jack joining the staff of Field Marshal Sir John French [Chief of Imperial-General Staff, later 1st Lord Ypres]; the success of the Royal Naval Air Service attack on [the Zeppelin sheds] at Friedrichshafen [Germany], November 1914.
