Scope and Contents
Papers on Sir Winston Churchill, Admiral Hugh Sinclair [Quex Sinclair], and Alexander Denniston, mainly concerning recruitment for Room 40 [of the Old Building of the Admiralty] and the Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park. With typescript copy of a talk by Mavis Batey on British intelligence, for a living history tour of Oxfordshire. Also includes transcript of a letter from Alfred Dillwyn "Dilly" Knox to Denniston, and report on correspondence between Mavis Batey and Gillian Bennett, former Chief Historian of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
