Photograph taken for Picture Post magazine of WSC in his study at Chartwell [Kent]. He is sitting in the corner of the room with one leg crossed over the other and a cigar between his fingers, looking directly at the camera, and wearing a dark siren suit with a white jumper underneath. Behind him there is built-in bookcase, with two telephones in the shelf just above his head, while to the side of him there is a table covered with books and papers, a monthly engagement card propped up, and several busts, including one of [?] Napoleon. On the wall behind the table there is a huge map, and there are several large metal deed boxes underneath it.
